Mechanical Design Engineer

Salary: £31,931 to £34,709 (dependent on skills and experience). A Specialist Allowance of up to £4000 per annum is also available for this role.

Hours: Full Time.

Contract Type: Open Ended.

Discover the science your skills can enable by bringing your engineering experience to our ISIS Neutron and Muon Source. This facility is a world-leading centre for research in the physical and life sciences. Through the use of a proton accelerator and a high-power target facility, we produce beams of neutrons and muons that allow scientists to study materials at the atomic level.

As a Mechanical Design Engineer at this facility, you will be responsible for the design, procurement, and commissioning of end user equipment for use in scientific experiments. Working alongside our established team of engineers, you will also be responsible for:

  • Management of projects through the full lifecycle, from proposal to final commissioning.
  • Producing user documentation including proposals, design reports, and risk assessments.
  • Leading design reviews with project collaborators in engineering, scientific, and management roles.
  • Producing 3D models and 2D drawings.

We are looking for someone with:

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant subject area, or equivalent experience.
  • Evidence of significant mechanical design experience of individual components and full systems.
  • Ability to provide creative ideas and efficient solutions to challenging design problems.
  • Proficiency in Solid Edge or equivalent CAD software.
