AWE currently had multiple opportunities for experienced Team Leaders to bring their expertise to AWE and successfully lead a team of engineers to deliver the unique and extraordinary work within the Trials & Test Technology Centre.

Location - Reading area

Package - £42,950 - £60,000 (depending on your suitability and level of experience)

AWE are looking for Team Leaders, preferably with an Engineering or Science background, to manage, develop and shape highly dynamic delivery teams within Trials, Test and Technologies. We currently have roles available within our Mechanical Engineering & Energetics Engineering teams. The ideal candidate should have experience of successfully developing high-performing teams and a proven track record of people focus, driving delivery, performance, and continuous improvement.

What will you be responsible for?

  • Leading, coaching and developing a team at a local level to deliver team and personal objectives safely and securely to meet our operational plans

  • Assessing staff performance, measured against agreed personal objectives that are aligned to delivery objectives and accountabilities, and taking corrective action to improve performance and/or behaviour where necessary via appropriate management interventions

  • Continuing to embed the culture change to underpin a Future Ready capability

  • Managing resources in a safe, secure and cost-efficient manner

  • Ensuring that the work undertaken by the team is consistent with AWE strategy, policies, processes, procedures, and quality standards while minimising risk to delivery of the Integrated Technical Programme

  • Being responsible for the technical quality of the work undertaken by the team and/or teams through appropriate internal (i.e. with Subject Matter Experts) and external reviews

  • Maintaining a high level of knowledge and awareness in field of technical specialism; understanding the industry challenges and changes which could impact AWE

  • Helping to develop a robust 2-4 year succession plan, to ensure business continuity

Whilst not considered a checklist, candidates would benefit from having the following:

  • A degree in an engineering, scientific or STEM discipline, equivalent NQF level 6 qualification or equivalent experience

  • Significant proven experience delivering technical projects to time and quality

  • Experience in leading a successful team whilst adhering to Company policies and procedures

  • Strong technical leadership with the ability to develop internal/external technical collaborations and influence project direction

Candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role.
