Location: Reading / Basingstoke Area (office based role)

Package: £33,850 - £65,000 (dependent on skills and experience)

Our Design Engineers are a key element within our Warhead Engineering organisation, maintaining knowledge of our existing designs, and investigating future design options. They provide underpinning theoretical and modelling capabilities to enhance the understanding of the complex physical processes associated with nuclear weapon function and applying them to current products as well as enhancing the ability to design for the future.

In this role you will bring a wide background knowledge of physics and engineering principles to apply design tools such as finite element modelling to explore the component design space and investigate optimisation to customer requirements. You will also support the testing of sub-component designs in a high voltage test environment.

Dependent on you level of experience, we will be looking for suitable candidates to demonstrate much of the following knowledge/experience and a strong drive to develop their skills in this role:

  • A degree in Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or other numerate discipline; equivalent NQF level 6 qualification or equivalent attainment

  • A knowledge of complex processes and/or experience in applying numerical modelling codes/tools to investigate these

  • Methodical approach to problem solving with ability to draw together and interpret evidence/data from a variety of sources to reach a reasoned conclusion

  • Articulation of technical complexities and able to translate these into a programme and schedule of work to address technical challenges and meet the programme goals, possibly providing technical leadership.

  • Able to work independently and unsupervised, as well as being a co-operative and collaborative team member.

  • Flexible, self-motivated, with the ability to handle multiple tasks

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and at appropriate level to the audience. Able to engage stakeholders and build a network of Subject Matter Experts and Technical Authorities

  • Working in a multi-discipline, regulated environment, with strong emphasis on safety and security

Candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role.

Experienced candidates will be professionally registered (Incorporated or equivalent).
