We’re looking for Systems Engineers to help shape the future of our vitally important work. If you’ve got big aspirations, our organisation will provide the tools to help you grow, learn, and achieve extraordinary things. That’s why we say, your ambition leads here.

About us

Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S) is an integral part of UK Defence. We equip and support the UK’s Armed Forces as they protect life at home and overseas. As part of this, we procure smarter tech for intelligence systems. Vehicles that go further, and faster. Safer, more effective vehicles for land, sea and air. Because the defence sector is constantly changing, we need engineers with different skillsets and backgrounds to help us harness new, emerging and future technologies. Join our team and you’ll help deliver a diverse portfolio of mission-critical programmes to the front line. In return, we’ll give you the training, support and progression to achieve your career goals.

About the role

This is a chance to work with new and emerging technologies, including integration, and enhancing existing systems, for our country’s Defence, and we’re pleased to promote opportunities within our Land Equipment and Integrated Battlespace teams.

As a Systems Engineer, you’ll lead integration and enhancements with rapid turnaround times. You’ll manage the delivery of all engineering aspects within your area of responsibility, providing expert advice and guidance to problem-solve and identify risks. You’ll be managing the technical requirements for the ‘acquisition’ lifecycle stage, for one or more projects, service, or systems. Monitoring and implementing governance and assurance policies, you’ll also ensure that your area of responsibility meets ‘safe and professional’ status.

This is a brilliant opportunity to lead on the development of requirements, including acceptance plans, performance criteria and draft specifications – a chance to make real impact.

About you

To be successful in your application, you must hold a level 4 qualification or above, or demonstrate equivalent relevant experience. You’ll have technical expertise in an engineering discipline, and a breadth of knowledge in the application of systems engineering approaches. Show us you have experience of providing technical advice and leading the delivery of successful engineering outcomes, and you’ll be ticking all the boxes.

The benefits

When you join DE&S, you’ll benefit from a clear career path with plenty of opportunities for progression. As well as support from colleagues and mentors, access to specialist training and funded professional qualifications to develop your career. And you’ll enjoy a c.27% employer pension contribution. You’ll also have access to a wide range of employee networks, including the Women’s Inclusive Network, Race & Culture Network, Pride Network, Disability Network – and many more. We recognise that the best people for the job may have commitments outside of work, so we’re pleased to promote flexible and hybrid working to support our colleagues in balancing work and home life.

Due to security requirements, these posts are open to sole UK Nationals only. Some roles will involve DV clearance once candidates are in post, which is the most thorough method of security clearance.
