Springer Nature, the publisher of Nature, is looking to recruit a Chief Editor for Nature Reviews Electrical Engineering, a new journal that will launch in 2024.

Nature Reviews Electrical Engineering is the second engineering Nature Reviews journal in a planned expansion of the Nature Portfolio. The journal will have a broad multidisciplinary scope and will cover all areas of electrical engineering.

Core topics will include, among others: avionics, circuits and systems, control and automation, electronic design, automation and simulation, instrumentation, microelectronics, power engineering, signal processing, very-large-scale integration and telecommunications. The journal will bring together work from engineers, scientists and industry, and will also provide insight onto how recent developments in these research areas might affect society.

The Chief Editor is responsible for leading a skilled and enthusiastic editorial team and for developing the editorial strategy and content of the journal. The successful applicant will work closely with the editorial team on all aspects of the editorial process, including commissioning, manuscript editing of Reviews and Comment-type articles, and writing for the journal.

For this exciting role, the ideal candidate will have: a broad knowledge of electrical engineering topics; excellent literary and verbal communication skills; a commitment to the communication of scientific ideas; outstanding leadership qualities; commercial awareness and a positive attitude to change. They should have a PhD, a strong research background and previous editorial experience. Experience with line management would be beneficial. The ideal candidate will also have innovative and creative ideas for the future development of the journal.

A key aspect of the job is interaction with the research community, including attending international conferences and organizing site visits. The successful candidate must have excellent interpersonal and networking skills and be prepared to travel when appropriate and required.

To apply: Please send a recent CV; a 1,500-word vision statement for the journal (including an outline of the editorial strategy for launch and longer-term development) and 10 ideas for Review articles to commission (including author suggestions); a brief cover letter explaining their interest in the post, and stating notice period and salary expectations.
