STFC’s Project Engineering Group is at the core of many of the UK & Europe’s most exciting scientific experiments. We are currently looking for an exceptional Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team. The right person to join our team will have a comprehensive knowledge of CAD systems and the specifying and buying of engineering systems, but beyond that you will need to be able to contribute to projects from the conceptual stages through design, manufacture, procurement, assembly, installation, integration, and commissioning adding tangible value as part of our small highly respected team.
A typical week as a Mechanical Design Engineer in the Project Engineering Group could see you producing design solutions in CAD, imparting your knowledge by contributing to technical meetings and reviews, rewriting or creating technical documents, sharing ideas with engineers, scientists and technician and most importantly building and commissioning engineering systems
To be successful in this role you must have
- At least five years working in a professional engineering environment
- A comprehensive background using 3D CAD including production of detailed engineering drawings
- Be proficient in the design, specification and procurement of engineering equipment.
- Can demonstrate an understanding of numerical engineering principals and calculations
- Be comfortable presenting ideas and solutions to customers, collaborators and senior staff
- Experience of mechanical manufacturing and fabrication techniques, including material selection and processes for design solutions
