Senior Design Engineer - C&I

Location: Reading / Basingstoke Area

Package - £42,650 - £65,000 (dependent on experience)

Opportunities exist for candidates from a Control & Instrumentation background.

Successful Candidates will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring engineering design solutions comply with all AWE and UK legal requirements together with AWE business case needs.

  • Reviewing designs for hardwired and computer based safety and control systems and process instrumentation.

  • Providing subject matter expertise and compliance advice in the areas of; the Ionising Radiation Regulations 2017, Machinery Directive, Low Voltage Directive, EMC Directive, DSEAR and functional safety standards including BS EN 61508.

  • Safety Instrumented Systems design and verification.

  • Production of guidance and standards documentation.

  • Contributing to integrated safety when reviewing engineering designs.

Whilst not to be considered a check list, candidates should be able to demonstrate some of the following:

  • An understanding of the design process to deliver either Conventional or Nuclear facilities, their building services and process plant and equipment

  • Previous design experience of multiple or discrete engineering packages of works that provide a design solution to a set of requirements in either the Conventional or Nuclear industries

  • Good technical and management skills including problem solving and decision making

  • Good oral, written and presentational skills with a particular aptitude for report, documentation and letter writing

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills to ensure effective communication to all levels to both internal and external personnel

Ideally, we would expect candidates to have a Degree or equivalent qualification in a science or engineering discipline or equivalent vocational qualification.

Candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the security clearance required for the role and be willing and able to travel within the UK and overseas as required (if applicable) once restrictions are lifted.
