Aston Institute of Photonic Technologies
Contract Type: Fixed Term (24 months or until 31st March 2025 whichever the shorter.)
We are looking for a skilled Postdoctoral Research Associate/Fellow to work on an innovative research project that has been funded through EPSRC and SFI https://gtr.ukri.org/projects?ref=EP%2FS016171%2F1 This project looks substantially increase the capacity of optical transceivers well into the Terabit regime using optical combs and advanced media conversion techniques. The work is a collaboration between Aston Institute of Photonic Technologies, Aston University, Birmingham, and the RINCE Institute, Dublin City University, Dublin.
The successful candidate will join an established team within the Aston Institute of Photonic Technologies under the supervision of Professor Andrew Ellis and will carry out research in purpose-built photonics research facilities at Aston University. They will develop advanced ultra-high-capacity optical transmitter and receivers, addressing limitations of resolution and sampling frequency with novel optical solutions. They will demonstrate the performance benefits in realistic test scenarios including extended tests during secondments to partner institutions.
They will have a strong track record in the development of transmitters and receivers in optical communications. An ability to learn new techniques quickly is highly desirable and additional training will be given as needed.
Candidates who have recently submitted a relevant PhD and are awaiting award will be considered at the grade of Research Associate. Candidates with substantial post-doctoral experience in an appropriate field will be considered for appointment at the grade of Research Fellow.
