MBDA Missile Systems - Together. For the future of defence.

Join a newly restructured team to support the ongoing success of our flagship Ground Based Air Defence Weapon Systems

Salary:up to £58K dependent on experience + bonus + benefits

Hybrid working pattern: Where possible, we will seek to accommodate a blended approach to on-site and remote working.

An opportunity for an experienced electrical power / control architect to contribute their experience to defining and developing technical solutions for MBDA's range of Ground Based Air defence products. Projects will include realising the full potential of Land Ceptor which has recently entered service with the British Army and evolving this capability for the needs of our emerging export customers.

Your role will be to develop and define the electrical and electronic architecture of the equipment for all areas of the Weapon System solution, supporting analysis and decomposition to the lower level sub-system elements and managing all technical elements of the Electrical Power and Control Equipment's. Customer requirements in the Land Domain will be challenging you to deliver within the constraints of limited physical space and harsh operating environments. Through your regular interaction with stakeholders and customers, using your communication, influencing and leadership skills you will be developing the product development demands with the delivery team, whilst focusing on the overall product picture to ensure the ‘On Time, On Cost, On Quality' delivery of the technical solution.

Maintaining an adaptable outlook in an ever-changing, competitive and challenging working environment will be an advantage.

What we're looking for

Ideally educated to degree level (or an equivalent qualification or experience), in electrical and electronic engineering with having obtained practical application knowledge in the following areas:
  • Computer based control systems
  • Electrical Installation Design
  • Wiring regulations - specifically for mobile or transportable systems
  • Design of electro-mechanical machinery and handling equipment in safety critical environments
  • Platform and Vehicle based power (civil or military)
  • Uninterruptable power systems

It would also be beneficial if you could demonstrate experience and knowledge of
  • Hands on experience with electrical installations, machinery, testing of electrical installations, testing of equipment(s), trials work
  • Working knowledge of good EMC/EMI design techniques at the system level and down to individual equipment level
  • Understanding of Missile Weapon Systems in Land, Sea or Air Domains
  • Electronic equipment knowledge such as:
    • Digital electronics and microprocessor systems
    • Power electronics for distributed power networks
    • Design of equipment for safety critical environments
    • Design of equipment for handling of sensitive customer data
    • Compact packaging and thermal management techniques for electronic equipment
    • Grounding, Screening and Bonding design

What's in it for you?

This role is about contributing to a flagship Weapon System delivery programme that has just entered service and has a number of domestic and export opportunities. You will be able to have exposure to all elements of the engineering development lifecycle in a relatively short space of time as we negotiate in-service support modifications or design improvements with the British Army and translate our design solution to new applications with Global Customers already at the negotiation stage.

The project team is distributed across multiple UK and European sites and so there is inherent flexibility in where and how the team interact and work on a daily basis. You will also have the opportunity to build in national and international travel in support of delivering technical bids and design solutions with our customers.

Working closely with the Sales and Business teams on our Engineering proposals that you have led a multi-discipline team to develop, you will gain practical knowledge of the business and engineering trade-space it takes to be competitive in this market.

As your experience develops, you will have the opportunity to broaden your scope and support other Programmes and Research activities using your specialist knowledge in Electrical Architecture of Weapon Systems with the potential of leading to Technical Expert status.

Join a great team!

The Land Ceptor team is a dynamic, international team with a wealth of experience and knowledge to draw from. Set within a matrix organisation you will have the support of the Weapon System Equipment function to provide career development, training and exposure to the wider MBDA engineering function.
What to expect:
We offer opportunities for career progression, paid overtime (subject to level), bonus scheme, comprehensive pension package, annual salary review, collaborative working environment and excellent on-site facilities.

We recognise that everyone is unique, and we encourage you to speak to us should you require any advice, support or adjustments throughout our recruitment process. We also welcome applicants who are looking for flexible working arrangements.
