Adapting to climate change is integral to everything we do, and we operate at the place where environmental change has its greatest impact on people’s lives. We work closely with a wide range of partners to make sure we are reducing the risk from flooding to communities and that there is enough water for people and wildlife. We also apply the environmental standards within which industry can operate.

The role

We are looking for graduate Electrical Engineers to join our well established and highly experienced MEICA teams (Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Control and Automation). As an Electrical Engineering graduate with the Environment Agency, you can have a major impact on reducing the risks to people, households, and businesses from flooding.

Our MEICA teams also lead on environmental management and in particularly, energy efficiency therefore you will bring innovation and passion to make a difference and be part of the solution and contributing to our challenge of becoming a carbon net zero organisation by 2030.

You’ll follow a structured and well supported training programme that satisfies the requirements of the engineering council and Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) to become a Chartered Engineer (CEng). Once completed, you will be in a great position to apply for a wide range of suitable professionally qualified roles in the Environment Agency. Our structured graduate programme lasts between four to five years, it offers you a mix of internal and external placements, allowing you to build skills in everything from asset management to project feasibility, planning and design to project management, and site supervision to incident response. Spending between three months and a year in each placement gives you plenty of time to get to grips with the real issues, gain the necessary experience and make your mark on a project.

The person
