About the role

Reporting to the Director of Science and Innovation for Climate and Energy, you will lead a team of specialist engineers, scientists and policy professionals to deliver engineering advice on energy policy across Government. By using robust technical evidence, analysis and engineering support, and building collaboration across domestic and international networks, you will support the Government’s mission to tackle climate change. You will your team will have particular focus on disruptive innovation where you will support energy entrepreneurs exploring energy efficiency, power generation and storage. Working closely with Chief Scientific Adviser, you will also help develop the science and engineering profession within BEIS.

About you

We’re looking for a highly qualified professional engineer who combines research management expertise with strategic oversight and commercial awareness. You’ll bring in-depth scientific and technical knowledge in the field of energy demand and supply. Meanwhile, your excellent communication skills mean you have the ability to influence stakeholders at senior level, including ministers, both in the UK and internationally. You’ll be ready to manage long-term, complex commercial relationships with a range of suppliers and partners. You’ll also demonstrate strength in leadership, including the ability to manage, motivate and develop a technical team.
