The Scientific Computing Department (SCD) provides large-scale computing facilities, computing data services and infrastructure at both Daresbury Laboratory in Cheshire and Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in Oxfordshire. Made up of data infrastructure, and scientific computing and computation groups, the expertise and intelligence SCD provides UKRI, underpins almost every key calculation across the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) and beyond.

We are currently recruiting 4 Research Software Engineers to join a team of experts to provide advanced computing for leading-edge science alongside developing and operating a wide variety of Digital Research Infrastructures. The posts may be at senior position depending on the experience of the candidate.

About the Role
In this forward-thinking role, you'll work in cross-project teams developing tools and services for advanced systems. You'll be collaborating with our service users as they research into some of the toughest questions facing the world today, such as discovering new materials to help reduce waste, or exploring how we might change our cities to tackle climate change

You'll be gaining deep, hands-on expertise with the latest cloud-native tools, practices and data management technologies, building novel data and modelling platforms, and be part of a team who are creating tangible, positive change for generations to come.

Band D essential skills:

• Experience working with modern programming languages, for example Python, Javascript, JavaExperience of working within an agile software development processExperience of Software Engineering tools, methods and processes.Experience with working with external users for requirements capture and systems supportWorking within a Linux environment

Band E essential skills all of the above, plus:

• Experience in software systems designExperience in leading development on system components.
