What is the Role?

We are looking for an Onshore SHE Hydrogen Manager for Hydrogen and Associated Technologies to support our growing technology portfolio of projects globally, and to work with the Onshore development, construction and engineering teams on SHE advice and support for Hydrogen technologies along with associated emerging technologies.

This is a key management position within the SSE Development and Construction SHE function, with responsibility for supporting the SHE delivery for SSE Hydrogen projects, delivering on agreed SHE objectives, and providing professional SHE leadership and expertise to the SSE business unit in order to both ensure full compliance with regulatory and internal requirements whilst promoting continual improvement in its SHE performance.

Furthermore, the Hydrogen SHE Manager will build and maintain firm relationships with the SSE Hydrogen Leadership Team and with key stakeholders including Regulatory Authorities, Industry Bodies, Contractor Management Teams and Site Operational Teams as required.

The key responsibilities for this role are as follows:

- Act as a Specialist on Hydrogen Safety matters supporting Procurement, Engineering and wider SHE Development and Construction teams.

- Provide Specialist Hydrogen SHE advice to projects during the planning and execution phase through review of risk management processes related to Hydrogen, relevant Hazard Studies, design decision making, design risk registers and related control strategies.

- Ensure that the correct SHE Hydrogen resources are allocated and that the projects within their remit are delivered.

- Work with the wider Renewables Capital Projects SHE team to deliver requirements in line with the SSE Safety Family Programme, ensuring this is delivered in a clear, consistent, and frequent way.

- Support the Hydrogen Business Unit to enhance the SHE capabilities of their project managers to engage with their teams on all safety matters.

What do I need?

To succeed in this role we would expect you to bring experience as a SHE professional from a high hazard industry, i.e, Hydrogen, Onshore/Offshore Wind Renewable Industry, Construction or Oil and Gas. We would also love for you to have;

- Knowledge of Hydrogen Major Accident and Hazard Industries and high complex assets and Equivalent Systems.

- Hydrogen Process Safety knowledge and Process Engineering experience with a solid understanding of SHE Management Systems, SHE Risks & UK/ROI Legal Framework.

- Degree in Health and Safety related discipline, engineering / safety engineering or similar.

- Ideally hold an audit qualification such as ISO 45001/ISO 14001 internal auditor, along with an Incident root cause analysis qualification.

- Registered member of IOSH or equivalent professional body.
