Fantastic opportunities for Senior Mechanical Engineers - Substantiation

This specific role is a technical engineering post with responsibility for the design substantiation of process tooling. This includes generating the required detailed auditable evidence to demonstrate that process tooling is designed in accordance with its statutory compliance obligations (through use and interpretation of appropriate harmonised standards) and its Nuclear Safety Case Requirements.

This includes but is not limited to:

  • Generation / Technical Checking of Substantiation Reports
  • Generation/technical checking of calculation reports
  • Check/Authorisation of safety case aspects of Maintenance Instructions
  • Interrogation of Safety Case documentation
  • Review/Signoff of statutory compliance documentation
  • Definition of the Quality Control requirements for the manufacture of designs

Location - Reading / Basingstoke Area

Salary: £42,650,00 - £58,000.00 (dependent on experience)

Key accountabilities of the role will include but are not limited to:

  • Support process and equipment design, development and introduction of best manufacturing practise in terms of productivity, reliability, innovation and quality to the workplace
  • Deliver, manage and support all technical aspects of new/current processes and/or equipment within designated area of responsibility, ensuring all are underwritten and available on demand
  • Subject Matter Expert approver for tooling/equipment/process configuration documentation
  • The Company may require you to fulfil any other reasonable duties aligned to your position from time to time in line with business needs
  • Maintain and promote high personal standards in environment, safety, health, security and quality and be a great team player

Qualifications needed for the role:

To be considered for the role we will expect candidates to hold a recognised degree in an engineering discipline or NVQ Level 5. Preference will be given to individuals with design / substantiation experience in fields with significant safety implications.

Successful candidates will need skills and knowledge in:

  • Demonstrating experience in mechanical engineering
  • Thorough analytical mindset with the ability and willingness to undertake deep dive investigations
  • Strong capability for identifying, understanding and making use of the link between disparate sources of information
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation such as Supply of machinery Safety Regulations, General Product Safety Regulations, PUWER, LOLER
  • Knowledge and experience of working with BS, EN, ISO and ASCE and ASME standards and their application to design and design assessment
  • Numerate and able to undertake engineering hand calculations.
  • Articulate, both in verbal and written communication. Able to write coherent detailed and precise reports to a high standard
  • Microsoft Office

It is desirable that you have:

  • Understanding of and experience in the specification of Quality Control for products
  • Able to use FEA packages (Abaqus or Ansys preferred)
  • Knowledge of welding in design
  • Experience in delivery of Engineering Design Substantiation against Safety Case Specific Safety Functional Requirements
  • Knowledge of safety cases, how they work and how they are constructed
  • Knowledge of ATC production processes

Candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role

Candidates must also be willing and able to work in designated areas to working patterns and be willing and able to undertake UK and Overseas travel as required
