We are currently seeking a Senior Power Electronics Engineer for the development of power electronics circuits for aerospace motor drive applications, including inverter and DC-DC SMPS circuits. This is a hybrid role.

In this role, the Senior Power Electronics Engineer will work in a multi-disciplined engineering team to develop the next generation of advanced motor drives for aerospace applications and developing the solution with SiC or GaN FET devices to deliver high performance solutions.

This role includes responsibility for leading the engineering design of power electronics circuits and producing detailed design documents and simulations to support the development. You will work in accordance to our quality guidelines and apply relevant aerospace standards to your work.  

A strong ability to work in as part of a team, using your own and others strengths to help optimise the design. Work will be delivered to a budget and time schedule so engineers are expected to be able to track their own schedules and budget for reporting back to program leadership.

Basic Requirements:

  • A high level of expertise in power electronic design, requirements capture, design and systems/product integration is required e.g. degree level qualification as a minimum.

  • Demonstrable practical experience commensurate with a Senior Specialist position in power electronics.

  • Experience in electronics design for harsh environments (extreme temperatures, vibration levels, etc.)

  • Experience in design of products (not only test equipment) for the Aerospace or Automotive industry, in the area of Power electronics.

Preferred Requirements:

Experience of power circuit topologies and their design is required and experience of some or all of the following would be beneficial.

  • Power devices – IGBTs, MOSFETs, Bipolar transistors

  • Power circuit design and development up to 500 Amps

  • Magnetic circuit design – transformers, inductors

  • Motor control

  • Analogue circuit design

  • FPGA design and interface electronics

  • Circuit simulation – SABER, SPICE

  • Hardware build and test

  • Thermal design and modelling

  • Converter/Inverter design topologies

  • Electrical machine design
