Who are we looking for?
As we are growing at UKAEA, we currently have an exciting opportunity for an Engineering Analyst looking to work at the forefront of their field leading in research and application of integrated multi-disciplinary and multi-physics simulation tools to solve some of our most complex problems.
This role of Engineering Analyst will have you engaging with the core engineering issues facing fusion systems and components, which will lead to you contributing to the critical progress and delivery of fusion power systems.
To be successful in the Engineering Analyst role, you will be confident in delivering packages of work without supervision. You will be able to manage small project teams and undertake some peer-checking and supervision of other staff.
What will you be responsible for?
As an Engineering Analyst, your role is to carry out mechanical engineering design activities with a particular emphasis on tasks requiring expertise in the use of computer aided engineering (CAE) tools to simulate design functionality and qualify performance. Core duties include:
- Developing expertise in the analysis of key Fusion Engineering Systems
- Creating Fusion Engineering models of components and assemblies, including complex multi-body assemblies and coupled multi-physics analyses, and use them to optimise and verify performance of design concepts
- Compiling load specifications from functional requirements and use calculation tools and Fusion Engineering analyses for qualification of design concepts
- Undertaking code testing and validation work for new analysis code modules
- Writing new analysis code modules to enhance capability of existing analysis platforms
- Managing teams of around 4 people to deliver design substantiation work packages
Essential skills, experience and competence required
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
- Experience in the application of Computer Aided Simulation techniques
Desirable skills, experience and competence
- Experience of managing small-project teams
