About the Role

Base Location: Flexible, however our preference is that you will be based in one of our key UK or Ireland sites, which includes but is not limited to:- Glasgow, Perth, Aberdeen, Inverness, Reading, Havant, Belfast or Dublin.

As an Electrical Engineer working in the Offshore Wind Integrity Engineering Team, you'll be responsible for providing the technical knowledge required to manage the integrity of operational assets, where failure would have a major impact on safety, environmental, and commercial operation of the business. You'll also be involved in all electrical aspects of offshore windfarm operations from turbine to grid connection.

This will be a dynamic role interfacing with a range of stakeholders, coordinating planned & reactive maintenance along with fault-finding activities as required. Working closely with other members of the Engineering and Operations teams, you'll develop operational procedures and working practices, ensuring safe and effective management of the assets. You'll support the development of relevant engineering standards/specifications and undertake engineering reviews to ensure assets comply with engineering legislation and standards and provide specialist engineering support and advice to our Operations team.

Some of your other main accountabilities will include:

- Acting as first line support to the Operations and Engineering teams.

- Developing proactive and corrective maintenance plans for a range of HV and LV systems.

- Routine testing, maintenance, and inspection of electrical systems.

- Managing the electrical infrastructure within the wind farm during all phases of the asset life cycle.

- Liaising with and managing external contractors on site, ensuring they work to required SSE standards and ensuring that the Wind Farm always operates within SSE Environmental, Health and Safety guidelines, as well as reporting and recording of all Non-conformances.

- Maintaining a clear technical record of the condition and status of windfarm electrical components, taking a proactive approach to maintain asset integrity.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

- Demonstrable experience of Electrical Engineering, preferably at higher voltage levels, however candidates with a strong alternative background may be considered.

- A background in operational engineering.

- High level of competency and ability to discuss the associated technology of HV / LV transformers, switchgear, cable systems and generators, as well earthing, protection, and converter systems.

- Experience of delivering technical projects and liaising with technical stakeholders.

- Comfortable dealing with multiple simultaneous work scopes.

- Strong team working skills and confident communicator with enthusiasm and commitment to deliver engineering excellence.

- Passion for customer service.

- Strong IT literacy and report writing skills.

- Candidates will preferably be either a Chartered Engineer or working towards this. SSER fully recognises, encourages, and supports our engineers in this and their continued professional development.
