Location: Reading, Melksham, Sunderland, Leeds

Salary: circa £20,100 per annum pro rata

Our summer placements offer you the opportunity not only to play a part in achieving our goals, but to grow with us as well.

This placement would suit a student entering the final year of their degree in September or those who have already graduated

Why join SSE?

To reach net zero by 2050, we're looking for candidates who can bring big ideas, new skills and innovative thinking to help us build a world that's more sustainable and inclusive for you, your family, the community you live in and for generations to come.

What will I do during the placement?

Our Enterprise summer placements provide real hands-on experience through a 12-week placement in our Construction team. With the help of our supply chain we construct low carbon infrastructure such as EV Charging Hubs and energy networks in a sustainable manner. You will be working as part of the team on key projects that are either in construction or development. Working on topics such as SHE, Quality, Commercial, Risk etc. Throughout the placement, you will have the support of a business mentor and buddy who will provide guidance to enable you to reach your full potential.

Our summer placement students work collaboratively in a variety of contexts, while also taking ownership of their role by working under their own direction to drive action forward. There will also be networking and presentation opportunities, specialist sessions and support from our graduates.

What do I need?

You'll have a genuine interest in SSE and the prospect of a long-term future with us, as often candidates who join us on summer placements consider joining our Graduate Programmes after graduation. We would love you to have some knowledge of:

- UK Net Zero Strategy.

- UK Construction methodologies.

- SSE Net Zero Strategy.

- MS Office Applications (Word, Excel, Teams, Visio, Project).

- Excellent written / verbal communication skills and a can-do attitude to new tasks.

Ideally, you'll already have, or be on track to achieve, a minimum 2:2 degree in a construction focused subject. Our opportunities are open to students who are entering the final year of their degree in September or those who have already graduated.

We'd love you to have some practical work or project experience that reflects your passion for the energy or sustainability sector, as well as demonstrable experience of working in a team. You'll also be comfortable working to and setting stretching individual targets and using your own initiative to overcome challenges.
