About the Role

Base Location: Glasgow or Perth

Salary: £37,600 - £56,400 + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Flexible First options available

We are looking for a qualified accountant to join our Group Services team supporting our Corporate Functions. Our team is growing to both support the transformation of the SSE Finance Function and to adapt to UK corporate governance reforms (UK Sox). The Group Services Accountant will be expected to make a significant contribution to the Transformation programmes as well as taking on BAU activities to free up subject matter experts to focus on project activity.

This is a varied and challenging role with responsibilities including:

- Preparation of routine accounting journals and Balance Sheet account reconciliations to maintain ledger accounting discipline.

- Preparation of monthly management accounts, including variance analysis against budget and forecast.

- Preparation of periodic forecasting and budgeting analysis, ensuring updates are validated, reconciled, recorded, and reported on a timely basis.

- Control remediation activities.

- Support External Reporting (Preparation of Subsidiary Statutory Accounts and Group Accounts).

- Involvement in process simplification and digitisation initiatives.

- Supporting the audit process.

What do I need?

We are looking for a fully qualified accountant (ICAS, ICAEW, ACCA, CIMA or CIPFA) with experience operating in a finance operations role within a large organisation.

Experience in Finance Business Partnering, having supported senior leaders, ideally in a corporate environment.

Exceptional knowledge of core financial systems and general accounting policies and procedures as well as knowledge and understanding of Financial Control and Governance Frameworks.

You should also be able to demonstrate the following.

- In depth knowledge of ERP software (Oracle desirable).

- Awareness of current regulations including IFRS/ New UK GAAP and Companies Acts.

- Excellent communication, both verbal and written, and presentation skills.

- Able to work to tight timescales, under pressure and deliver to a high standard.
