IT Summer Placement - Emerging Technologies

Duration: 12 weeks commencing June 2023

Location: Havant, Reading or Perth as a base location, although majority of time working remotely

Salary: Circa £20,100 per annum pro rata

What is the role?

We are looking for a unique individual to join our Emerging Technologies Team for a summer placement. The team have an inspiring role carrying out research and building working demonstrations and proof-of-concepts using the latest technology.

You'll need to be flexible and adaptable in learning new technologies and be passionate about future technology and problem solving. That includes being willing to develop software and hardware solutions in a variety of languages and technologies. As were a small team, you'll also need to be willing to elicit problems, opportunities and requirements from our internal customers and evangelise how new technology has the potential to benefit SSE.

You'll have the opportunity to work closely with other members of the team on exciting initiatives that could potentially be game changing to SSE and the energy industry as a whole. In addition to this, you'll be expected to manage your own workload and work independently at times.

Our summer placement students work collaboratively in a variety of contexts, while also taking ownership of their role by working under their own direction to drive action forward. There will also be networking and presentation opportunities, specialist sessions and support from our graduates.

What do I need?

We have opportunities for those studying degrees inclusive of software development and/or technology innovation. Our opportunities are open to students who are in their 2nd year of their degree onwards or those who have already graduated.

We'd love you to have some practical work or project experience that reflects your passion for the energy sector, as well as demonstrable experience of working in a team. You'll also be comfortable working to and setting stretching individual targets and using your own initiative to overcome challenges and should have a genuine interest in SSE and the prospect of a long-term future with us.
