BAE Systems - National Security Cyber Accelerator: Software Engineering & Cyber Research
At BAE Systems, our Cyber teams do the most interesting work you’ve never heard of! We’re an industry-leading company and investing heavily in growing our Cyber team. Our Cyber Accelerator aims to take promising software engineers, reverse engineers and vulnerability researchers and give them the training and experience needed to become exceptional, in order to make a meaningful contribution to UK National Security.
If you have experience developing software, are driven by learning new things, love playing around with technology or are excited by finding out how things work - then our National Security Cyber Accelerator could be just the challenge for you.
You’ll start your first year with specialised training, including tailored work experience and coaching under the close guidance of our Subject Matter Experts (SMEs). This training will cover research and development skills that will directly support your work during the programme and throughout your career. You will spend time on project work in your base location - Gloucester, London or Manchester - and complete training both virtually and in various locations.
On completion of the Accelerator you will move into a permanent role in Gloucester, London or Manchester Cyber and National Security teams, where you will help to solve some of our customer’s hardest problems; and trust us - these are not the kinds of problems you’ll get at a hedge fund, a Shoreditch start-up, nor even a Silicon Valley tech giant.
We don’t just make software, we make a difference.
Key programme features
- A training programme delivering learning that supports a strong sense of progression, continuity and collaboration.
- Work in small teams using Agile methodologies to deliver projects across platforms including Android, Windows, Linux, iOS and MacOS.
- World class technical training in Software Development of Python, C++, and C#.
- SMEs imparting experience and knowledge to ensure you have the skills to succeed.
- Practical experience of hands-on learning to solve real life challenges.
Team values
We believe that our experience and approach makes us unique. We always strive to be the best we can be, yet our team fosters a supportive, inclusive andfriendly environment for everyone to work, learn and succeed.
Who we are looking for

You might be self-taught or have learned in an existing job, and you don’t need to have a degree or any formal qualification.
To be selected for the Accelerator, you will need:
- Some coding experience
- Versatility
- A love of technology and the desire to learn more about it
- Some experience which demonstrates a familiarity with working with computer technologies. This could be one or more of:
- A higher education degree in a STEM subject
