At the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team, a group of passionate and determined people work to design, develop, manufacture and race the cars driven by seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton and race winner George Russell.
The Team has set a new benchmark for Formula One success during the sport’s current Hybrid era, winning consecutive Drivers’ and Constructors’ World Championships in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020, and the Constructors’ Championship in 2021.
A vacancy has arisen for a Wind Tunnel Technician reporting to the WT2 MGP Operations Manager in the WT2 Aerodynamics department based in Brackley.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the operation of the 60% scale wind tunnel. This includes running Aerodynamic and Engineering tests in the wind tunnel, assisting with model changes, and analysing data from the wind tunnel, model and other sensors. The role is shift based and the normal pattern is Monday – Friday early and late shift (alternating every week). Early Shift: 06:00 – 14:30 & Late Shift: 14:30 – 23:00.
The role:

Operation of the wind tunnel for Aerodynamic and Engineering tests.

Wind tunnel model installation and pre-session runs and checks.

Assist with maintenance and improvement of the wind tunnel and its related systems.

Filling in check sheets and logbook for each run.

Checking and validating data from the wind tunnel for each run.

Identifying any potential or actual problems with the wind tunnel and its related systems.

Assist with part changes on the wind tunnel model.

Assist with the creation of ride maps for the wind tunnels.

Actively support a safe and healthy working environment.

Maintaining high standards of housekeeping.
What we are looking for:
The ideal candidate for this role will ideally have knowledge of Wind Tunnel systems and Aerodynamic testing.
In addition, they will also be a confident communicator, have good interpersonal skills and be able to plan and organise their own workload, whilst working under pressure. The candidate will also be computer literate and have a flexible approach to work. Knowledge of electrical instrumentation, data acquisition and Pi Diablo software or similar programs would be advantageous.
