Our aim is to deliver a zero-carbon, lower cost energy future.

Join us as a Control & Instrumentation Engineer in our Capital Projects team, as we work towards becoming a global leader in negative emissions and a UK leader in dispatchable renewable power.

It’s an exciting opportunity to get involved in large-scale, innovative projects including global bioenergy with capture and storage (BECCs) and building the UK’s first pumped storage hydro power station in over 30 years.

Based at Drax Power Station near Selby, there’s flexibility for some hybrid working. The role may also involve domestic (UK) and international travel.

About the role

Day-to-day you’ll take ownership of workstreams and smaller projects, ensuring they’re delivered to a high standard and meet relevant legislative, company and statutory requirements. You’ll partner with suppliers and manufacturers, appraising different technologies to identify the products and solutions that support our strategy.

You’ll support budget development, monitoring commitments and spend within authority limits. Stakeholder management will be key, as you’ll initiate and manage contracts and contract work execution for smaller contracts.

You’ll get to collaborate will colleagues across Drax and external partners including suppliers, vendors, technology companies, OEMs and start-ups. You’ll also support the management of indirect reports including graduates, subcontractors and trainees.

This role is based at Drax Power Station Selby, however it is not maintenance based – the focus is on delivering Capital Projects in the UK and Globally.

About you

You’ll need extensive experience within control and instrumentation engineering within power generation, process manufacturing or heavy industry. Specifically, you’ll have experience executing control and instrumentation projects, managing contractors and looking after your own budget.

Ideally, this will be coupled with a relevant Engineering qualification such as an HND. An IOSH or equivalent health and safety qualification and a recognised process safety qualification would be beneficial.
