Our aim is to deliver a zero-carbon, lower cost energy future.
Join us as a Lead Electrical Engineer in our Capital Projects team, as we work towards becoming a global leader in negative emissions and a UK leader in dispatchable renewable power.
It’s an exciting opportunity to get involved in large-scale, innovative projects including UK and global bioenergy with capture and storage (BECCs) and building the UK’s first pumped storage hydro power station in over 30 years.
Based at Drax Power Station near Selby, there’s flexibility for some hybrid working. The role will involve domestic (UK) and international travel on an ad-hoc basis.
About the role
You’ll lead on technical delivery for multiple major and minor capital projects which support long-term strategy for Drax. As part of the Group Technical Authority, you’ll work to ensure engineering compliance is achieved for Capital Projects.
Supporting budget development, you’ll monitor commitments and spend within authority limits. You’ll also support the management of significant, multi-million-pound contracts and take the lead for the Electrical team managing contract work execution.
Stakeholder engagement will be key. In addition to collaborating with colleagues across Drax, you’ll manage relationships with external partners including suppliers, vendors, technology companies, OEMs and start-ups.
You’ll lead and develop a team of direct reports in the form of engineers, graduates, sub-contractors and trainees.
This role is based at Drax Power Station Selby, however it is not maintenance based – the focus is on delivering Capital Projects in the UK and Globally.
About you
You’ll need demonstrable extensive experience leading an electrical engineering team, delivering major projects within power generation, process manufacturing or heavy industry.
As a minimum, you will be a BEng qualified engineer, however a Chartered Engineer is preferred. You’ll be a member and working towards accreditation with a professional institute such as CEng or IEng. An IOSH or equivalent health and safety qualification is beneficial.
This role requires knowledge of British and International codes and standards relevant to electrical design and operation (IEC/IEE/BS-EN). You’ll also need an understanding of the following: electrical protection schemes, high voltage switchgear/ transformers/ generators, electrical system design, operation and maintenance and the UK electricity grid markets.
