As Product Engineering Design Group Leader, you will play a pivotal role in leading, developing and managing the group in the provision of advanced engineering design and analysis capability to support programmes and projects across UKAEA, with a focus on mechanical and process engineering design.

The Product Engineering Design (PED) Group Leader will lead, develop and manage a group of approx. 25 engineers (direct line management of 3 team leaders, with sub teams of ~8 engineers) in the provision of advanced engineering design and analysis capability to support programmes and projects across UKAEA.

Additional Responsibilities

- Recruit and develop engineering staff to actively set the direction and lead the Group’s capabilities development, matching this with the growing diverse project portfolio; enabling knowledge capture and transfer to maximise the capabilities of the Unit.
- Serve as a point of authority in mechanical and/or process engineering design and advise on technical solutions, designs and/or critical plant operational issues.
- Overcome cultural and procedural barriers to delivery, working across UKAEA departments to identify and execute continuous improvement in line with the evolving project portfolio.
- Provide technical and project leadership on projects for external and/or internal customers that are applicable to future fusion devices and applications of related technology.

As part of your role, you could be asked to work in radiation-controlled areas or in beryllium-controlled areas. Full training and medical assessments will be provided if this is necessary.

Qualifications
Essential skills, experience and competence required

- A relevant engineering degree or equivalent and attained or actively working towards Chartered Engineer status with a suitable professional institution. 
- Experience leading teams and supervising other staff. 
- A track record of delivering high technology science or technologically complex projects to time, budget, safety and quality. 
- Good working knowledge of fundamental mechanical and/or process engineering principles, e.g. structural and thermal engineering, solid mechanics and engineering materials, process plant design.
