Engineering, STEM & Economics/Finance Industry Year Placements 2024 - Transmission

Duration: 12 months commencing 3 June 2024

Location: Glasgow, Aberdeen, Perth or Inverness

Salary: Circa £21,000 per annum (pro-rata)

What is the role?

Working as part of our multi-disciplined teams, we have a range of opportunities for students to support projects across our Transmission business. We're at the forefront of some really high profile projects which are ensuring our transmission network is structurally sound, operating safely and efficiently and providing sustainable and reliable energy to all.

We're looking for students who can bring fresh ideas, new skills, and creative thinking, to deliver innovative solutions to help us reach net zero. Our Transmission Industry Year Placements provide real hands-on experience through a 12-month placement in one of the following teams; HVDC Engineering, Project Engineering, Asset Management, and Regulation. Throughout your placement, you will have the support of a business mentor and buddy who will provide guidance and support to enable you to reach your full potential.

Our placement students work collaboratively in a variety of contexts, while also taking ownership of their role by working under their own direction to drive action forward. There will also be networking and presentation opportunities, specialist sessions and support from our graduates.


What do I need?

- For our Engineering roles based in Glasgow, Aberdeen, Perth or Inverness, we have opportunities for those studying Electrical, Power, Mechanical, and Civil Engineering.

- For our Regulation roles based in Perth or Glasgow, we have opportunities for those studying Economics, and Finance.

- For our Asset Management roles based in Perth, we have opportunities for those studying Computer Science, and STEM degrees.

Our opportunities are open to students who are in their 2nd year of their degree onwards and will graduate between 2025 and 2027.


We'd love you to have some practical work or project experience that reflects your passion for the energy sector, as well as demonstrable experience of working in a team. You'll also be comfortable working to and setting stretching individual targets and using your own initiative to overcome challenges and should have a genuine interest in SSE and the prospect of a long-term future with us.
