Location: Reading
Package: £58,500 - £88,000 (depending on your suitability and level of experience)

There are many exciting projects underway with unique buildings in the stage of services and equipment fit out and major new facilities in the design stage. If you take this role you will be faced with many technical challenges. You will be dealing with major production facilities involving various hazardous materials.
As Reliability & Safety Engineer (Principal), you will be required to lead and drive the following:
Manage a small team of Availability, Reliability & Maintainability Engineers covering:
The application of an agreed AR&M strategy throughout each design phase for AWE's Projects
Development of Reliability requirements in support of process and throughput targets
Substantiation of Safety Systems ensuring designs satisfy safety targets (e.g., SSFR's)
Be the SME, focal point for advice, information and expertise about policy, best practice, and knowledge with regards to Reliability and Safety engineering across the whole of AWE
Provide the definitive AWE interpretation on issues relating to Reliability and Safety Engineering
Creation and development of relevant company guides, standards and processes for Reliability and Safety engineering
Review and audit designs against legislation, standards, best practice, and company requirements
Ensure up to date knowledge of standards and legislation is disseminated and understood by relevant stakeholders
Carry out checks and inspections to ensure that best practice is being followed
Ensure communication is maintained with other relevant disciplines across the company
Use technical knowledge to assist in the achievement of Right First-Time design
Carry out competency assessments of Reliability and Safety design engineers providing engineering services for AWE
Provide an Intelligent Customer interface with Regulators at a corporate level
Fulfil a Nuclear Baseline Role as required by AWE Licence Conditions (LC36)
Provide independent assessments of engineering designs to the Design Authority.

We'd love to hear from individuals with an in-depth knowledge of regulations and standards and be capable of their intelligent application to a diverse range of buildings and processes, including the management of ageing plant and equipment through to the latest emerging technologies. This role will provide you with the opportunity to use your technical knowledge and experience to the full and develop skills in leadership with future opportunities in more senior managerial roles.
The suitable candidate will have extensive experience in designing and application for Safety and Reliability engineering in large complex production or manufacturing organisations preferably within a highly regulated industry.
Whilst you will be expected to manage a team covering the full spectrum of Safety and Reliability engineering, you will require knowledge within the following areas:
Substantiation of Systems having a Safety Function by production of assessment reports and supporting analysis e.g., Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Failure Modes Effects & Criticality Analysis (FMECA); Safety Integrity Level (SIL), Common Cause and Common Mode Failure analysis (CCF/CMF), Probability of Failure on Demand (PFD) calculations
Predicted Reliability performance of plant/process designs using appropriate techniques e.g., dynamic Reliability Block Simulation (RBD), Markov, Chi Square, Weibull, and Parts Count analysis
Application of appropriate maintainability/maintenance strategy e.g., preventative, corrective, pre-determined, condition based etc
Use of operational data to conduct in service plant/process Reliability performance analysis and subsequent recommendations for improvement
Familiarity with Reliability and Dependability BS EN; AQAP; DEF Standards. Related Standards e.g., IEC 61508
Failure rate data sources including NPRD-2016, OREDA, MIL-STD 1629, MIL-HDB 217F
Use of Software packages including Availability Workbench, Reliability Workbench & FaultTree+, RAMP
Qualifications:
Membership of an appropriate professional institute preferably at Chartered Engineer level but as a minimum at Incorporated Engineer with equivalent academic qualifications (minimum HNC/HND) in an Engineering discipline
