The successful applicant will be a member of Certification Division's, Structures and Aircraft Design Standards branch, where they will be the lead project manager and editor for all MAA-managed Aircraft Design Standards (ADS).

We’ll provide the training to develop your knowledge and skills, enabling you to effectively undertake your responsibilities. You’ll have the authority and autonomy to deliver objectives while remaining accountable to the Head of Branch for the delivery of the Def Stan 00-970 management plan.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week and is based at MOD Abbey Wood North.

Job description

You will lead a highly knowledgeable team to develop and maintain the Defence Standards 00-970 in support of the Certification of new UK military Air Systems and design changes, covering Fixed and Rotary Wing aircraft, Remotely Piloted Air Systems and aero-engines.

The key responsibilities include;

  • Effective coordination of stakeholders to improve the content and quality of certification specifications, to support MAA air safety activity, update and upkeep the ADS-managed Defence Standards.
  • Project management of Defence Standard 00-970 updates, including: collaborating closely with Subject Matter Experts within Certification Division and wider-MAA; writing and maintaining project schedules and ensuring that milestones are met; and assuring the editorial output.
  • Support the MAA, DE&S Delivery Teams, and Industry by providing appropriate and timely direction and guidance regarding ADS-managed Defence Standards; collaborating closely with Certification Division Subject Matter Experts where additional technical guidance is required.
  • Attendance at NATO tandardization agreement ‘STANAG’ working groups (including Remotely-Piloted Air Systems STANAGs 4671, 4702, 4703 and 4746), ensuring the MAA and its interests are appropriately represented. (A STANAG defines processes, procedures or equipment between member countries of the alliance).
  • Leadership and development of ADS section personnel.

     

Person specification

Essential

  • You will need to be able to achieve Professional registration at I Eng level within 18 months of appointment.
  • You will be expected to have a strong AeroSystems engineering background.
  • We will need you to demonstrate that you have experience of working in a leadership role in a team environment.

Desirable

  • Practical experience of working with certification standards will be an advantage.
  • We will welcome applicants with practical experience of the development or assessment of aircraft level performance and technical requirements.
  • Experience of the application of Military Air System Certification Process (MACP) will be beneficial
