Starting Salary: £42,501 / £48,336 with the opportunity to earn: £44,574 / £50,810 + an annual company bonus of up to £4k.
Working Pattern: Days  (37.5 hours per week, typical
hours are 07:30 – 15:40 or 08:10 – 16:20)

Authorised Person – Electrical (AP(E))

 

Authorised Person – Electrical provides an expert front line electrical safety support service to reinforce, maintain and improve electrical safety & electrical maintenance during plant operations and maintenance (including isolations) to ensure compliance with all relevant legislation & guidance and to ensure people are working to SL standards and expectations on the SL site and off site facilities.

 

Principle Accountabilities include:
 

 

•             Provide guidance on all aspects of electrical safety to operations, maintenance, projects and contractors to minimise the risk of injury to individuals and ensure compliance to legislation and guidance.

 

•             Maintain compliance with the Electricity at Work Regulations (E@WRs), IET Wiring Regulations & SL Electrical Safety Rules (ESR) & guidance during any activities by personnel on electrical equipment or electrical systems by undertaking the agreed programme of Task Observations and Electrical Safety Audits.

 

•             Provide training, coaching and mentoring to Nominated Persons Electrical (NP(e)), Planners, Safe Systems of Work Controllers (SSC) and others as required on activities associated with work on electrical equipment or electrical systems.

 

•             Nominate, re-nominate and assess NP(e)s and contractors (as required) to meet SL and Regulation 16 of the E@WRs requirements.

 

•             Ensure the NP community in their area of responsibility provides the appropriate coverage and undertake assurance assessments on the competency of the NPs

 

•             Produce, endorse or advise on Risk Assessments to identify and assess electrical hazards prior to commencing or instructing others to carry out work on any electrical equipment, electrical system or any other task which has risk from electricity.

 

•             Ensure high hazard electrical work (e.g. work on or near live exposed conductors that may give rise to danger) has good quality pre job briefs and the appropriate control & supervision.

 

•             Carry out audits in line with SL ESR requirements, facility requirements or as instructed via Senior Authorised Person Electrical (SAP(e)).

 

•             Undertake the agreed programme of Task Observations on NP(e)s and others whilst they are carrying out work activities on electrical equipment, electrical systems or on equipment at risk from electricity to ensure correct standards of electrical safety and maintenance are being maintained.

 

•             Introduce and encourage use of Maintenance Standards and Human Performance tools and techniques in activities associated with work on electrical equipment and electrical systems.

 

•             Attend relevant stakeholder meetings or isolation surgeries to provide electrical safety advice on the hazards identified and the controls required to mitigate hazards.

 

•             Lead or support investigations with electrical implications to determine root causes and identify learning to share across site.

 

•             Hold regular NP(e) meetings to review electrical safety, share learning and best practices.

 

•             Regularly attend AP(e) meetings with peers to discuss electrical safety, learning and share best practices.

 

•             Attend SAP(e) meetings as required to share experiences and learning with SAP(e) community and gain insight into site electrical safety discussions.

 

•             Support SAP(e) in improving electrical safety and maintenance, introducing changes and sharing LFE.

 

•             Maintain up to date registers of portable equipment, temporary supplies and redundant cabling to ensure that all equipment is safe to use, maintained appropriately and location and state is known.

 

•             Carry out duties as per the nominated appointment of Authorised Person Electrical as set out in the authorisation certificate.

 

•             Identify, develop and coach future AP(e)s from within the craft communities to strengthen the capability of the electrical community.

 

•             Develop and deliver training and briefing sessions to the electrical craft team members and Apprentices to ensure that standards and best practice are disseminated into the electrical craft community promptly and effectively.

 

•             Organise work outside of the normal work planning process for the maintenance craft team members preparing work packages for the one-off electrical safety activities to allow prompt delivery of electrical safety improvements, address safety issues or standards of work.

 

•             Understanding the impact of ageing assets on electrical safety within their area of responsibility.

 

•             Liaise with procurement representatives to ensure any electrical equipment procured is fit for purpose, and safe for use for the given application. This includes portable electrical equipment and test equipment.

 

•             Review Maintenance Instructions, plant/facility drawings and Technical Basis of Maintenance (TBoMs) to ensure that any modifications are included to ensure technical accuracy.

 

•             Supports the SAP(e) with regular involvement with regulators, stakeholders, auditors, unions and benchmarking exercises.

 

•             Proactively utilise networking and training opportunities to keep abreast of improvements and changes in standards, best practices and regulations and to embrace the usage of new technologies in areas of electrical engineering and safety.

The Ideal Candidate: We’re looking for people that have good knowledge in Engineering, whether this may be through direct experience, or through transferable skills.

 

Essential Skills:

 

  • Higher level qualification or equivalent training/experience in an Engineering/Maintenance discipline. Demonstrable understanding and application of Equipment Reliability processes or provision of support to front line maintenance delivery. Demonstrable experience of ensuring / improving plant and equipment reliability and availability. Demonstrable experience of acting as a subject matter expert for both internal and external stakeholders.

 

 

 

 

Desirable Skills:

 

  • Chartered / Incorporated Engineer status or potential to achieve with an accredited professional institute. Engineering qualification and experience in Engineering/Maintenance role or an environment of similar context and complexity. Demonstrable evidence of acting as a role model to promote and challenge behaviours and change. Demonstrable evidence of complying with appropriate regulations, standards and policies.
