This unique role is an opportunity for a senior engineer to join the exciting world of MEICA (Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Control and Automation). The MEICA Team Leader is responsible for leading and managing a specialised group of mechanical and electrical engineers. This is a technical role where you will be responsible for the quality and delivery of specialist MEICA works by the team. The asset portfolios served include water resources, flood risk and navigation. The team play an essential role in the management of the Environment Agency’s assets. A key activity is the risk based MEICA assurance of our Strategically Important Asset stock.

You are responsible for providing high quality technical and managerial instruction, ensuring that specialist MEICA technical, safety, legal, environmental, and operational requirements are met. You will work across the area and cover a very diverse range of assets and will have to manage change.

A full UK driving licence is required for this role, and you might be expected to travel within the region, depending on locations, to various depots/offices, such as Thirsk & Scarborough.

As MEICA Team Leader you will be part of a national community of peers and national assurance teams. Responding to incidents is also a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.

The team

Our MEICA team is a multi-skilled, specialised group of MEICA engineers and support staff. You will report to the MEICA Operations Manager and show leadership on MEICA activity for your team which spans across the North East. You will provide technical electrical and/or mechanical support and direction to your team members and be responsible for liaising with wide range of business partners and clients across the North East.

Experience/skills required

We are ideally looking for a chartered mechanical or electrical engineer with relevant leadership experience. In addition, you must understand, and be able to communicate the important issues relating to the management of MEICA assets.

You will have knowledge of MEICA maintenance management including systems such as computerised maintenance management. You should also be able to demonstrate relevant experience in the following areas:-

• Leading people

• Managing change

• Influencing and persuading others

• Focusing on customers and partners

• Incident Management

• Maintenance Management Strategies

• Asset Management and Technical support

• Understanding the asset demands, risk, reliability, and performance of 24/7 operational sites

Salary £47,646 (plus £6,000 for Chartered or £3,000 for an Incorporated MEICA engineer registered with the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) or the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) (pro-rata – if part time)).
