We are seeking to recruit a Junior Security Analyst to join the Cybersecurity & Governance Team within the Digital Infrastructure department. 
STFC’s Digital Infrastructure department provides the infrastructure and enterprise services that underpin STFC’s programme activities. The departments project portfolio includes projects across a number of disciplines including IT Security, Networks, Applications, Telephony, Cloud, Infrastructure, Data Management and High Performance Computing. 

You will be part of a wider Cybersecurity and Governance Team operating within a Digital Infrastructure and across STFC. You will be responsible for essential proactive cybersecurity monitoring. These roles will also play a key role in the continuous improvement and monitoring of cybersecurity tools. 

Role Responsibilities:

•    Support cyber security monitoring and delivery activity within STFC.  This includes contributing towards the development and implementation of Information Security processes, and user guidance. 
•    Responsibility for the security of STFC's Digital infrastructure by proactively analysing security threats/challenges/risks to the environment, including conducting penetration testing and compliance reviews.
•    Responsibility for monitoring of Information Security and information management to ensure compliance.  Including reviewing and monitoring system and network logs for malicious activity or unacceptable use. 
•    Support all activities for the resolution of information security incidents by investigation and research and critical review to produce recommendations for their team leader / manager.
•    Responsibility for problem solving, using industry standard methods.  There is scope to utilise innovative & adaptive thinking, including offering advice on technical issues and more complex fault diagnosis. 
•    Resolution of customer and staff cyber security management issues, improving services to increase quality.
•    Representing the department internally or externally, including deputising for more senior grade.
•    Collaborating with other DI teams, and across STFC, through the lifecycle of IT services and applications, ensuring robust information security and compliance is achieved. 
•    Engaging with all staff, via a variety of platforms / communication channels, to provide advice, guidance and awareness activities on cyber security issues. 

You’ll have the opportunity to develop your digital skills, experience and professional technical knowledge in cybersecurity.

Person Specification:

•    A relevant cyber security qualification or relevant subject matter / industry experience.  (STFC will fund one relevant professional body membership).
•    ITIL Foundation level or prepared to undertake online certification within 12 months (instructor led virtual training class and exam fee funded by STFC).
•    Cyber operations knowledge / experience across the Identify, Protect, Detect, Respond, and Recover domains.  As examples, monitoring, vulnerability management, end point management, and participation in monitoring, threat detection, response and recovery teams.
•    Good knowledge and relevant experience performing at least one of technical roles, endpoint security, asset management, MS windows / Linux / Apple system admin, mobile device management (IOS / Android), and cloud or on-premises servers / data back-up.
•    An awareness of the role of Information Security standards, legislation and practices, such as GDPR & Data Protection Act 2018.
•    Experience in dealing with Information Security matters ideally within an ITIL based team. 
•    Able to think creatively to solve problems, comfortable working as a team where there is a fast pace of technology change.

The current cybersecurity and Governance team are located across STFC’s two sites (Rutherford Appleton Laboratory and Daresbury Laboratory). The new positions will be advertised as based at Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in Harwell and at the Daresbury Laboratory in Cheshire. Both roles will have a requirement for some infrequent travel between sites.

To meet national security vetting requirements, you will normally need to have been resident in the UK for at least 3 years for CTC, 5 years for SC and 10 years for DV prior to the date of application. All DV posts are required to be UK Nationals.
