About the Role

Base Location: Flexible, however our preference is that you will be based in one of our key UK or Ireland sites, which includes but is not limited to:- Glasgow, Perth, Aberdeen, Inverness, Reading, Havant, Belfast or Dublin.

As a Senior Control Systems Engineer, you will provide technical leadership within the Engineering Centre's Control Systems Team. You will be responsible for Engineering Assurance, acting as discipline Technical Authority on Large Capital Project design, development and construction activities, primarily on Onshore Wind, Solar & Battery projects in the UK, ROI and Europe.


You will also be responsible for driving Value and Innovation for the team, identifying and implementing new technologies and best practices which reduce costs and/or improve performance of assets.


Previous experience and knowledge of the Renewables Onshore Wind industry would be desirable and can demonstrate excellent technical knowledge and professionalism with a proven track record of success in a fast-paced project environment.


Some of your main accountabilities will include:


- Working with other engineering disciplines such as Civil, Mechanical and Electrical for coordination of works.

- Reviewing Employers Requirement Specifications for the Control Systems and support the project team during the supplier selection process.

- Acting as Technical Authority for the review of supplier documentation for compliance with SSE's technical standards.

- Attending and supporting engineers with various Factory Acceptance Tests and Site Acceptance Tests for the Control System and SCADA equipment and commissioning activities.

- Designing and configuring PLC based Control Systems, SCADA platforms and the associated network architectures and reviewing and supporting design work of wider Control Systems team.




What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to possess:



- Experience across all stages of design from concept through to commissioning of control systems on Large Capital Projects.

- Excellent knowledge of the main control systems industry IEC standards and commonly used communication protocols for onshore Wind, Solar & Battery projects.

- Knowledge of OT Cyber Security industry standards and current best practices such as IEC62443.

- An innovative mind-set with a flexible approach, and the ability to deliver high quality work on a consistent basis whilst being an excellent communicator with the ability to engage effectively with varying levels of stakeholders across the business and beyond.

- Chartered engineer with a relevant professional body such as the IET and member of the engineering Council, or working towards chartership.
