Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Software Engineering
Department of Computer Science & Software Engineering
Faculty of Engineering Christchurch, Aotearoa - New Zealand
- Full-time 37.5 hours per week (1.0 FTE)
- Continuing (permanent) position
What You Will Do
We invite applications for a continuing Lecturer/Senior Lecturer position in Software Engineering (equivalent to Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in the US System) to join our diverse and dynamic department.
You will teach into the growing Software Engineering undergraduate programme, which is accredited by Engineering New Zealand to the internationally recognised Washington Accord. You will also instruct at the postgraduate level and supervise research thesis students.
You will develop a strong, externally funded research programme that complements the Department's present research activities, but is not limited to these topics. You will be encouraged to contribute and extend the department's extensive network of collaboration with researchers and industry both internationally and locally.
Finally, faculty staff are expected to participate in Departmental and University activities and administration, and collaborate with other academics in the Department's teaching and research activities.
Who You Are
You will be expected to hold (or obtain) a Ph.D. degree in Software Engineering or Computer Science (or a closely aligned discipline) and have a demonstrated record of published research in Software Engineering (or a closely aligned discipline). The successful candidate will have a commitment to excellence in teaching of core courses in Software Engineering at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The appointee will also demonstrate a background in supervising final year undergraduate projects, Masters, and Ph.D. students, an ability in collaborating with others in the University, and interest in contributing to Departmental, College, and University activities.
Even though the scope of research and teaching of this position is rather open, and we encourage applications from candidates with a background in any area of Software Engineering, we are particularly interested in candidates with experience teaching group project courses using agile software development practices, software maintenance and evolution, software performance, and software reliability engineering. We also encourage applications from candidates with research and teaching experience in maintenance of legacy systems, software testing, or software security (including Software Engineering for cybersecurity).
You will have an active commitment to upholding the attributes that underpin the University values: Tika (doing what is right, being professional, and maintaining high standards), Pono (being honest, truthful, and acting with integrity), and Aroha (being respectful, responsive, and empathetic).
