Senior Environment Specialist- Supply Chain Sustainability

Location: Reading / Basingstoke Area

Salary: £ 42,420 to £65,000 per annum (dependent on skills and level of experience)

This is an exciting time for AWE as we look for an experienced environmental professional to support driving our sustainability commitments within the business. The team that you will join is part of the Policy and Standards team within the wider Environment Team, putting in place relevant strategies and requirements for supporting the EMS and driving our sustainability goals.

The role will provide environmental and sustainability advice, guidance and support to Supply Chain Management, overseeing our suppliers' credentials to ensure our environmental and sustainability requirements are met in line with relevant legislation, industry and company standards and AWE's ambitious Environmental Sustainability Strategy. The role represents a key interface between the Environment Team and Supply Chain Management. Responsibilities also include supporting the Circular Economy Theme Lead in driving Sustainable Procurement and Circular Economy principles into company processes as well as acting as an ambassador and promoter of sustainable procurement around the business. The role will also act as the lead for onboarding and overseeing AWE Locations to ensure our Environmental Management System (EMS) and Environmental Sustainability requirements are met.

As a Senior Environmental Specialist, you will lead and manage tasks to meet business and personal objectives as part of a multi-functional team. Key responsibilities include:

  • Co-ordinating and reviewing supplier on-boarding questionnaires, tenders and supplier competency evaluations.
  • Influencing on-boarding suppliers and existing suppliers to ensure they reach an acceptable level for our sustainable commitments.
  • Ensuring that company strategies, policies and management system requirements for environmental & sustainability are communicated and understood.
  • Supporting driving the principles of Sustainable Procurement and the Circular Economy within AWE's Supply Chain Management and wider business, in support of the Circular Economy Theme Lead
  • Travelling to Supplier premises, or to AWE Locations to validate, verify and ensure compliance with contractual and environmental regulations.

Whilst not to be considered a check list, candidates should be able to demonstrate some of the following:

  • Degree in an environmental or management based subject or vocational qualification (HND or equivalent) and/or commensurate practical experience.
  • Knowledge and/or experience of Environmental Management Systems and ISO 14001 and understanding of current environmental legislation, standards and guidance relevant to role; as well as some experience of procurement and related legislation.
  • Member of; or working towards an Environmental or Supply Chain professional institute and willingness to undertake necessary training and update knowledge as and when required including CPD.
  • All candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role and be willing and able to work in designated areas.
  • Willing and able to travel with possible overnight stays away.
