Subject Matter Expert - Excavations

AWE is currently recruiting for a Client facing Excavations - Subject Matter Expert (SME), to be responsible leading the management and oversight of excavation works within the AWE estate. The role will involve supporting a significant 'UK leading' multi-million-pound forward build programme, of new facilities and associated infrastructure.

Location - Reading

Package - Up to £55,000 (depending on your suitability and level of experience)

Within this position your responsibilities will be inclusive of:

Advice and support

  • Provide SME technical advice, in support of the implementation of the AWE excavations arrangements

  • Promote excavations learning and improvement

Policy setting

  • Monitor and assess the implications of existing, new, and forthcoming legislation, standards and guidance, relevant to excavations

  • Support the creation and maintenance of standards, procedures, and other arrangements relevant to excavations

Policy implementation

  • Confirm that resources (people, equipment, environment, or material) required to deliver excavations safely within AWE

  • Identify roles and the competency standards of persons required to deliver excavations safely within AWE

  • Define and maintain appropriate training, information, and support arrangements for

  • persons in roles expected to deliver excavations safely within AWE

Monitoring /Evaluation of compliance

  • Define and agree appropriate metrics for each output expected with the relevant to excavations

  • Conduct active monitoring of excavations, agreed metrics to obtain sufficient data to allow continual review of the arrangements

  • Lead excavation Risk Based Inspection and Rick Based Checks in support of surveillance activities

Skills, knowledge, and experience requirements for the role:

  • Have a suitable amount of technical excavations and site experience within the build/ construction environment, with a proven track record in managing excavations and associated works with live services

  • Hold an industry standard construction/build environment qualification, aligned to their discipline/specialism

  • CSCS (relevant level), or suitable equivalent

  • Membership of an appropriate professional institution (desirable)

  • Good understanding of current construction Health, Safety and Environmental Legislation/ Regulations, HSG47 and the 2015 Construction Design Management Regulations

Candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role.
