Base Location: Glasgow or Perth

Transmission operates under licence as Scottish Hydro Electric (SHE) Transmission plc, responsible for the transmission of electricity in the north of Scotland. We own and maintain the 132kV, 275kV and 400kV electricity transmission network in our licence area. Our network comprises of underground cables, overhead wooden poles, steel towers and electricity substations, and it extends over a quarter of the UK land mass across some of its most challenging terrain.

We are currently recruiting for an Asset Engineer specifically substation related into our Asset Management team; the key responsibilities are:

- To assess, understand and predict the performance, integrity and condition of substation assets (transformers, switchgear) and enable timely interventions to maintain overall network reliability.

- You will deliver value and contribute to the overall operational excellence of the business. This will require a practical approach combining effective and efficient technical advice on equipment related matters and the accurate review and reporting of asset condition from which you will be required to undertake thorough and detailed interpretation and analysis before making recommendation on the need for interventions.

- You will be required to communicate the results of assessments effectively to various stakeholders and assist in developing work plans including the design of repair/modification/replacement works, cost estimating and programming.

- Although office-based, you will make frequent site visits and enjoy immense variety in your role that few other companies could offer due to our unique portfolio of assets.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

- You should have a keen interest in asset management and significant hands-on experience of either design, construction or operation & maintenance of Transmission Substation Plant and ideally educated to degree level in a relevant Engineering subject.

- You should have an understanding of legislation, design and operational standards. The ideal candidate will be Chartered or close to it and will have significant experience relating to asset integrity assessments, management of risk and performance of ageing structures.

- You will display excellent communication and interpersonal skills and possess an innovative mind set, with a flexible approach.

- Furthermore, you'll have the capacity to deliver high quality work on a consistent basis in a demanding environment.

- The technical support and guidance you provide will relate to Transmission assets.
