Salary: Circa £21,795+ a range of other benefits to support your family, finances, and wellbeing. Salary upon finishing the trainee engineer programme is at least £34,000 per annum.

Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time

Start date: August 2024

What is the Role?

Our Trainee Engineer programme lasts for three years and combines academic study with work-based experience.

When not studying, you will balance your time at an SSE Thermal site which will include working alongside experienced SSE Technicians and Engineers. You will have opportunities to join specific engineering projects and maintenance activities.

By the time you reach the third year of the programme you'll be given increased responsibility in managing projects, planned outages, including all technical aspects, safety management and the supervision of Technicians and Contractors. On completion of your programme you will be qualified to work as an Engineer in a relevant discipline such as mechanical, electrical, control or process engineering.

The Trainee Engineer programme is designed to build the foundation blocks of your engineering career within the Thermal Energy business, providing you with great opportunities to be exposed to engineering excellence across the our business whilst developing your academic, theoretical and practical skills. This will provide you with an excellent opportunity to become an Engineer of the future.

What do I need?

  • 3 Scottish Highers at grade BCC or above including Maths and Physics, OR 2 A levels at grade CC or above including Maths and Physics
  • National 5 English at grade C or above, OR GCSE English at grade C or above, or equivalent

We are happy to accept applications from candidates with equivalent level engineering/technical qualifications such a HNC in an engineering related discipline or those who have completed the Level 3 apprenticeship in engineering or BTech Level 3 in Engineering or equivalent.

We will not be able to accept a HNC in electrical engineering for our Thermal Energy business area as this will be the qualification that you will be studying on the programme.

To be considered for this role, we would love you to be:

- Highly organised and self-driven with the ability to manage your time well.

- Flexible in your approach to work to maximise your chances of success, and you should be happy working alone or as part of a team.

- Comfortable to spend some time living away from home whilst attending college or on placements across SSE.
