AWE is looking for Warhead Mechanical Engineers. Are you a Mechanical Engineer, who has the ability, to see the bigger picture, and identify and execute solutions? If so, the Warhead Systems Engineering Team could have a career for you. We have a variety of roles to suit all experience levels.
We are looking for Engineers at various stages of their careers to apply their Mechanical skills to challenging design, system integration, safety, security, or nuclear projects. In growing our capability across these areas, we will also be looking to grow your skills and knowledge as an Engineer with opportunities for development and progression across our programmes of work.
The Warhead Systems Engineering Team provides the capability to design, coordinate, integrate and verify Nuclear Warheads and enabling systems to meet current, and potential future customer requirements. We manage the systems from cradle to grave taking consideration of safety, performance and through life maintenance while interfacing with the MoD and other strategic defence partners, while supporting AWE to deliver an integrated solution.
We have a range of roles available across engineering, and below is a brief summary of some of our opportunities:
Trident - Could you be part of an enthusiastic, fully integrated team that manage and generate technical information, including the warheads designs, for warhead processing equipment &, on behalf of the Defence Nuclear Organisation (DNO), to directly support Continuous at Sea Deterrent (CASD) at Coulport? This represents an opportunity for engineers to truly take a project from start to finish - from requirements generation, through concept to design, manufacture and ultimately commissioning at RNAD (Coulport).
Replacement Warhead - Do you want to design the future of our company? Our roles include generating and maturing system design options; trading key requirements across the options space; and defining and burning down key design risks across all products.

Location: Reading area (office based)
Salary: £37,860 - £68,000 (dependant on experience)

The difference you'll make in these roles:
- Contributing/Leading to the delivery of requirements, conceptual designs, detail designs, manufacturing specifications, operational documentation, and validation evidence for engineering solutions through all lifecycle phases

The key skills & experience you'll bring:
- HNC/HND or degree qualification in a science or engineering discipline or proven experience working in a similar environment
- Ability to integrate highly complex system concepts and work well in a team and support or take the technical lead in projects
- Experience in creating concept designs, assess key attributes and interfaces using applicable 3D CAD/CAE software
- Experience of using Siemens Teamcenter/NX is particularly desirable, although training will be provided
- An understanding of structural/thermal/dynamic analysis would be advantageous
Candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the security clearance required for the role and be willing and able to travel within the UK and overseas as required.
