AWE's Facility Design Authority is now recruiting for a Mechanical Handling Senior Design Engineer to provide guidance and advice that ensures utilities, infrastructure, engineering processes, equipment and facilities are compliant with legislation, standards and requirements associated with engineering designs throughout their lifecycle.
This opportunity would be a great match for a qualified Engineer with working knowledge of developing conventional engineering designs, high hazard and/or nuclear mechanical handling designs including cranes, lifting machinery and/or attachments, trolleys, transportation, logistics engineering, etc.
You should ideally have a relevant degree in an engineering-related discipline and/or relevant mechanical engineering experience and/or working to Chartered Membership of an engineering institution.
As a Mechanical Handling Senior Engineer, you'll be responsible for ensuring AWE Mechanical Handling standards / procedures are current and conform to relevant National/International/Defence Standards.
The candidate should have fundamental technical design knowledge and/or ability of the following:
- Able to understand and/or develop mechanical engineering calculations on mechanical handling and/or transportation equipment using first principles, MathCAD spreadsheets and/or other methods
- Working experience of Finite Element Analysis would be highly beneficial, although not essential
- Understanding of Relevant codes and design standard for cranes, lifting machinery and/or attachments, transportation, trolleys
- An appreciation of seismic implication on mechanical structures design, but able to work with specialist seismic engineers would be a benefit but not essential
- Understanding of the machinery regulations, CE marking, designers risk assessments
- Carry out mechanical handling designer competency assessments
Location: Reading
Salary: £47,690 - £65,000 (dependent on experience)
