Job Details

At SSEN Transmission, we take immense pride in owning and operating the high-voltage electricity transmission network across the north of Scotland. We transport energy from where it is generated to wherever it is needed, ensuring a safe and reliable electricity supply for the communities we serve. But that's not all - we're committed to upgrading the grid to deliver cleaner, homegrown energy for the future. By developing, building, and maintaining a network for net zero, we're creating secure power for generations to come.

Join us on our journey to net zero and help us power change.

About the Role

Base Location: Perth, Inverness, Glasgow or Aberdeen

Salary: £55,573 - £63,643 and a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

Working Pattern: Permanent / Full Time / Flexible First options available

As a Data Network Engineer, you'll play a leading role in building and designing the data network infrastructure to ensure we provide a secure by design network for connections to the renewable resources across Scotland to the Transmission network.

The SSE Transmission network will play a leading role in providing Scotland and the UK the electricity to achieve the ambitions of NetZero and you can be a part of that.

Key responsibilities for this role will include:

- Responsible for the Network technical design component of the Cyber Resilience for Operational Technology (CROT) programme, including delivery of specific project designs. Working closely with other specialists and implementing defined standards as appropriate, you'll act as the technical focal point for the OT Network.

- Generate detailed understanding of the Network topology (physical and logical) of the Network, both LAN and WAN. Performing technical deep dive network discovery where fuller understanding is required.

- Assist in developing a Network strategy as a component of the wider Operational Technology strategy. Engage with our primary suppliers to enable the realisation of the Network strategy.

- Perform assessment of Network risk. Creating appropriate mitigations within the Network strategy to minimise current and future risk.

- Identify and evaluate new technology which may be beneficial to the Network and projects. Lead the evaluation of new and prospective network technologies, processes, and governance in support of the CROT Programme. Lead the design and selection of future platforms, addressing cross-technology and cross-platform issues.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

- Demonstrable design and implementation knowledge of Network technologies (e.g. LAN, WAN, QoS and Firewall technical understanding).

- Knowledge of security techniques related to Networks and the associated mitigation, ideally with some understanding of how these relate to industrial control systems.

- Beneficial, but not essential, understanding SCADA networks, industrial control systems and the associated security standards.

- Oral and written communication skills to a level suitable to liaise with senior stakeholders at a detailed technical level. The ability to conceptualise complex business and technical requirements into comprehensible models and templates.

- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to convert ideas into effect plans/designs/reports.
