Assistant Engineering Manager (HVDC Cable Systems)
About the Role
Base Location: We're proud to offer a Flexible First approach to work, and this role is no exception. We will, however, need your base 'home' location to be one of our SSEN Transmission Offices (Perth / Inverness / Aberdeen / Glasgow)
Salary: £55,200 - £83,000 + company car / cash allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.
Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Flexible First options available
Many of the Pathway to 2030 projects are new HVDC projects which incorporate HVDC cables in both marine and terrestrial environments with interface at landfall locations. This role sits within the HVDC Cable Engineering Team. Experience in HVDC or HVAC cables in marine and terrestrial environments is advantageous; however, other similar experience will be considered.
We encourage candidates with a strong multi-discipline engineering and project management experience in client, contractor or consultancy organisations within the construction industry to apply.
The role has the following key responsibilities:
- Drive delivery of cable engineering management work scope, in line with SSEs governance process (typical value over £1 billion).
- Lead, including line management, and coordinate project engineers (of varying discipline/seniority) and key engineering outputs (e.g. Works Information, Design Management Plan, Design Assurance Review, plus business-as-usual reporting).
- Reduce risk (technical, quality, health, and safety) to the point of elimination or as low as is reasonably practicable. This includes risk identification, assessment, mitigation, communication, and record keeping.
- As a key member of Designer and Principal Designer teams, promote the safety-in-design ethos and discharge these CDM duties on behalf of SSE.
- Support and collaborate with project delivery management ensuring technical requirements, risks and issues are clearly defined, communicated, and understood.
What do I need?
To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:
- BEng/CEng qualification in appropriate engineering discipline
- Experience in a senior/lead role, overseeing a multi-discipline team and construction project, throughout full project lifecycle. Experience in HVDC or HVAC cables in marine and terrestrial environments is advantageous
- Strong literary and interpersonal communication skills, particularly when explaining complex technical issues and recommendations to senior management in clear and concise fashion
- Competent knowledge and understanding of electricity networks and the legal/regulatory constraints within which SSEN Transmission operates (e.g. ESQCR, CDM)
- Experience and proficient understanding of ECC and FIDIC contracts.
