Job Details

Are you looking for a new challenge for the next step in your engineering career? Are you looking to make a real difference at work, in an industry that empowers innovation? If so, joining us as a System Engineer at Dungeness B Power Station might just be for you!

The opportunity

We’re looking for System Engineers to work with us on ensuring the ongoing plant safety and equipment reliability of our plant. This is a unique opportunity to make your mark for the future, with many years ahead as we progress through the defueling stage and into deconstruction on site. You’ll have the opportunity to engage with different ways of working and work with partners from our nuclear fleet on these next steps of the station’s lifecycle. You’ll be able to develop your skills through system ownership and challenge yourself daily on innovative styles of working.

The Engineering Department plays a key role in enabling Dungeness to move into the future with confidence and drive. We encourage a flexible approach to working, whether that be on site at the power station taking part in plant walkdowns and collaborating with site teams, working from our office in Ashford alongside all disciplines of the engineering team, or taking the opportunity to work from home.

Pay, benefits and culture

The salary range associated with this role is between £40,069 - £84,892 however the starting salary for this appointment is expected to be within the range of £40,069 - £71,779 and you'll be appointed based on the parameters outlined in the Company Agreement as well as your existing salary, competence, experience and qualifications.

We can offer a wide range of benefits that include:

  • Competitive pension scheme
  • 28 days holiday (in addition to public holidays)
  • Annual pay reviews
  • EDF employee tariffs for your utilities
  • Life insurance
  • Employee discounts
  • Employee Assistance
  • Programme to support you when you might need it most, whether financially, for your health or at work
  • Electric car scheme, gym membership….and so much more!

At EDF, everyone’s welcome. We strive to create an inclusive and diverse environment where everyone has a voice and where you feel confident being yourself. We’re committed to equality, diversity and inclusion. We’re a disability confident employer and we’ll do all we can to help with your application, making adjustments as you need.

We’ll value the difference you bring and offer opportunities for you to thrive and succeed.

What you’ll be doing

Some of the roles and responsibilities will include:

  • Defining the maintenance and management strategy of plant systems throughout the phases of defueling and post-defueling
  • Developing short to long-term improvement plans and defining the maintenance policy on your assigned systems
  • Carrying out inspections and assessments on station assets and regular reliability reviews
  • Managing the equipment reliability and acting as a technical conscience, ensuring that compliance is achieved in line with the highest safety standards
  • Identifying potential risks on the station and defining the need for investment in plant systems.

You’ll also be working on how the demands on your system change as we move into deconstruction, such as the development and implementation of modifications to the plant and safety case. These modifications are likely to include retirement and removal of plant systems, as well as construction and operation of new plant to support deconstruction.

Your enthusiasm, resilience and adaptability will be key to your role as the system manager for a selection of the station’s plant systems. We want your drive and ownership of the role to promote innovation and improve station performance.

Who you are

Your self-motivated, positive attitude will ensure you can work under your own initiative to drive the asset strategy for your designated systems. You will be provided with training on the nuclear industry and how to demonstrate the highest standards of nuclear professionalism and safety. Your strength in communication skills will ensure complex information is conveyed in a simple and concise way to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, where you’ll need to adapt your style and content for the audience.

As a minimum, you will have a relevant HNC (or equivalent). It will be advantageous if you have a relevant degree and any previous experience in an Engineering or regulated high hazard industry environment would be beneficial. Holding or working towards Chartered Engineer Status is a benefit to this role but the company will provide mentoring and support for you to achieve chartership.

To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Vetting which will, ordinarily, require you to have been a resident of the UK for at least 3 of the last 5 years.
