Calling all passionate Electrical Engineers! SSEN is seeking an Investment Planning Engineer to join our team and help shape the future of Scottish Hydro Electric Power Distribution (SHEPD).

In this role, you'll play a pivotal role in ensuring a resilient and sustainable network that meets the increased demands anticipated over the current ED2 price control and beyond, while paving the way towards net-zero.

As an Investment Planning Engineer, you will:

  • Unearth optimisation opportunities: Identify projects that breathe new life into our existing assets, maximising performance and efficiency.
  • Drive smart investments: Develop compelling investment proposals with cost-benefit analysis, ensuring value for money and alignment with regulatory and license requirements.
  • Portfolio manage: Take ownership of network CAPEX projects, guiding them from initial concept to successful completion.
  • Become a network expert: Assess network performance, capacity, and asset condition, recommending improvements for current and future needs.
  • What do I need?

    To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

  • A minimum HNC in Electrical Engineering and a strong understanding of distribution networks or similar market sector.
  • Commercial awareness with a passion for solving problems by developing cost efficient solutions and an ability to drive business strategies.
  • Strong communicator with a drive to innovate: You'll possess exceptional communication skills, crafting compelling investment proposals in well-structured reports. You'll also have an eagerness to challenge the status quo, bringing fresh perspectives to optimize network performance and propose innovative solutions.
  • Strong organisational and planning abilities to meet demanding deadlines.
  • Proficiency in MS Office; network modelling experience (e.g. PSS SINCAL) is a plus.
  • It is an essential requirement that the successful applicant holds a valid UK driver's license.
