About the Role

While this role is based at the OT Security Test Centre in Perth there may be opportunities to travel to other SSEN Transmission sites for testing and research purposes.

Base Location: Perth

The Operational Technology (OT) Security Test Centre is a technical hub recently created for SSEN Transmission to facilitate the testing and cyber assurance of the wider Transmission OT equipment and systems.

The OT Engineer - Testing will be involved in the primary functions of this facility. You'll carry out testing of operational technology equipment/systems and develop secure device configurations and processes to help maintain the cyber security of our operational technology systems as well as delivering cyber security services in conjunction with the OT Field Engineers at SSEN Transmission substations.

While this role is based at the OT Security Test Centre in Perth there may be opportunities to travel to other SSEN Transmission sites for testing and research purposes.

There will be training and skills development opportunities in this role as well as the chance to attend ICS/Cybersecurity conferences throughout the year.

Key responsibilities for this role will include:

- Testing OT devices for security issues and developing device hardening configurations and processes.

- Checking OT system configurations comply with security standards and providing assurance that vendors are following SSEN security standards.

- Commission, maintain & operate site security appliances.

- Completing project activities and engagement with the wider OT and engineering teams.

- Assist in the development of security processes & procedures as well as challenge existing processes and recommending improvements.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

- Experience of working with OT/IT cybersecurity with an understanding of the key differences and the challenges faced in working in a substation operational technology environment and the implementation of cybersecurity solutions.

- Experience with substation equipment configuration and testing.

- Qualified to minimum HNC in relevant engineering or computing discipline, with a professional security management certification preferably with an OT bias, such as a Global Industrial Cyber Security Professional (GICSP) or similar supporting credentials would be beneficial.

- A solid understanding of network protocols and Windows / Linux operating systems and their security characteristics and operation.

- Experience using core scanning and analysis tools.
