Due to an internal promotion the School of Architecture, Design and the Built Environment are looking for a versatile and highly motivated individual to support manufacturing and the undergraduate practical teaching programmes. The successful candidate will manufacture project work as required by both undergraduate and post graduate students in addition to work generated by research activities. You will also work as part of a team, in demonstrating equipment and techniques to students, providing technical support and guidance to staff and students on undergraduate and postgraduate level programmes in the School Workshops and Studios under the direction of a Technical Team Leader.
You will be able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and communicate ideas of a complex or technical nature to students effectively, using a variety of methods and have a detailed knowledge of techniques and equipment gained through teaching, and/or industry experience.
Drawing on a minimum of 5 years’ previous experience in an engineering environment, you will be able to interpret engineering drawings and be familiar with a wide range of workshop-based manufacturing techniques and processes. A practical knowledge of TIG welding would be beneficial and experience in the use and programming of CNC based equipment is also desirable.
Experience is essential/desired for this role in the following areas:
- Conventional Turning and Milling
- TIG welding
- CNC Waterjet and Plasma cutting
- CNC Milling and Turning
- Hand Tools and Fitting processes
- Fabrication processes
- Machine Maintenance
- Literate in a CAD (Computer Aided Design) software package/packages
- Providing feedback to students
You will be educated to Degree/HNC level or equivalent in a relevant subject area. Possessing an in-depth knowledge of Health and Safety regulations and implementing positive changes when required. Experience in identifying the learning needs of students is also desirable.
