About the Role

As Director of Onshore Wind, Solar, and Battery for Europe, you'll be a member of the SSE Renewables Executive Committee. You'll be responsible for developing and delivering technology strategies for expanding our European footprint in line with our strategic objectives to accelerate growth, optimise value and achieve a just transition to net zero.

You'll oversee integrated technology harnessing performance, strategy, and culture for our European assets currently covering Spain, Italy, France, Greece and Poland, as well as any new operations in the region. Your remit includes the origination, development, construction, delivery, and operation of assets. You'll also manage P&L and be responsible for continuing to improve high levels of engagement and a diverse and inclusive culture across these locations.

Your accountabilities will include:

- Providing sign off on multi-million-pound devex and capex projects and driving operational performance to optimise commercial contribution. 

- Establishing, in the longer term, an asset management business responsible for operational assets including safe and commercial operations.

- Making recommendations on greenfield and brownfield opportunities to the Executive Committee across all locations.

- Shaping and aligning the teams of circa 100 staff, contractors and specialist consultants working within the technologies. Actively developing and leading a performance culture ensuring goals are met and that teams are motivated to improve processes, innovate, and develop their capability.

- Driving operational safety, health and wellbeing performance and embedding a safety first culture that constructively challenges and praises behaviours.

 What do I need?

We would love you to have:

- Deep understanding of the renewables industry within European markets, including an understanding of wind, solar and battery technologies.

- Experience of working in or supporting high value, complex capital projects including deep understanding of the commercial value drivers of operational services. Experience of early stage project development and navigating land, consents and routes to market is particularly beneficial.

- Strong people leadership skills and significant experience in leading teams, projects, and programmes.

- Experience in negotiations and excellent stakeholder management skills to drive delivery and ensure investments are fully optimised to deliver value.

- A growth mindset, with experience of change programme, and empowering the generation of innovative ideas and opportunities.

Due to the international nature of this role, candidates should be fluent in Spanish and/or Italian, and be able to do business in English. Regular travel will be a requirement of this position.
