AWE is growing its Governance, Risk & Compliance Team, within the Capital Engineering function, to develop and implement an enhanced assurance model to oversee one of the most exciting and extensive infrastructure build programmes in Europe today.
What do the Capital Engineering Team do?
Capital Engineering is the infrastructure delivery arm that, along with those of Warhead Engineering and Production & Assets, form the One Engineering organisation that delivers the full range of engineering capability within AWE.
What is the Capital Engineering Team looking for?
We need five outstanding individuals who have the drive, passion, and determination to join the team and ensure we meet our legal, regulatory, and company obligations as we embark on the delivery of new capabilities to support the Continuous-At-Sea-Deterrent that sits at the heart of the UK's defence.
The primary purpose of each of the five roles is described below, but as a developing team there will be opportunity for the successful candidates to determine and shape how the activities required to achieve these goals are developed and implemented. So that we can meet your expectations at interview, please include your role preference(s) within your application. However, if we feel you would be suited to one of the other roles, we will discuss this with you at interview. All roles will report directly to the Team Leader Process & Compliance. These five, Aldermaston-based vacancies include:
Capital Engineering Delivery Process Lead - (£62,020 - £85,000 salary, depending on suitability)
This senior role will provide appropriate and proportionate governance to the business processes, procedures and standards held within Capital Engineering, One Engineering and the wider business.
Regulatory Lead - (£62,020 - £85,000 salary, depending on suitability)
This senior role will provide appropriate and proportionate governance to regulatory activities to ensure consistency across Capital Engineering's diverse regulatory obligations that include our Internal Regulator, and external regulators including the Office for Nuclear Regulation, the Defence Nuclear Safety Regulator, the Defence Nuclear Security Regulator, and the Environment Agency.
Competency & Training Lead - (£47,690 - £70,000 salary, depending on suitability)
This role will provide governance to competency and training development activities within Capital Engineering that are necessary to ensure meet our regulatory, statutory, and business needs, and to enhance our One Engineering Competency Framework.
Compliance Monitoring Lead - (£47,690 - £70,000 salary, depending on suitability)
This role will provide health checks and undertake regular monitoring of regulatory, statutory, and business requirements to ensure compliance by our programmes and projects maintain compliance.
Innovation Lead - (£47,690 - £70,000 salary, depending on suitability)
This role will support the transformation of our delivery process through the creation of a centre of excellence for process, procedure, and standards development and innovation to meet or exceed regulatory, statutory, and industry standards.
What will you need to be considered for the above opportunities?
We are particularly interested to hear from candidates with the ability to:
Manage multiple concurrent assignments of varying scope and complexity in a cross-functional environment
Work with the other team members to identify and define the interfaces between these roles and work to ensure activities are conducted efficiently and effectively
Develop and maintain relationships with key people across the business, including those within One Engineering, Safety, Quality, Environmental, Security
Educate people on intricate subjects, facilitating comprehension and relevance to their job role
Work flexibly in response to changing organisational needs and be willing to undertake any other duty in line with the level of the job as may be required
Be role models within the organisation by setting the example for outstanding compliance to the company's policies, procedures, and the company behavioural framework

Educated to Degree level with relevant experience within an engineering or manufacturing environment
Delivery focused, with proven track record of delivering on expectations
Confident, self-starter with the ability to work with minimal supervision
Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
A good appreciation of risk and the application of the hierarchy of risk control
Previous experience working on large scale infrastructure delivery projects
Risk and control, governance, and/or compliance experience
Previous experience working within a highly regulated environment (desirable)
Experience of developing and implementation of digital transformation (desirable)
