Location: RG7 4PR, located between Reading and Basingstoke, with free onsite parking.

Package: £62,020 - £88,000 (depending on your suitability, qualifications, and level of experience)

Let us introduce the role

AWE is currently recruiting for a Mechanical Design Manager for the Experimental Equipment Design team.

This role will suit Engineers with a strong technical background and experience in mechanical engineering.

The Experimental Equipment Design team develop support equipment for tests and trials undertaken in our Technology Centres from concept design through to manufacture and assembly, principally supporting the Engineering Trials Delivery Unit with some support provided to the other Delivery Units; Hydrodynamics and Radiation Physics.

This is an exceptional opportunity for individuals looking to broaden their technical knowledge, experience, and leadership skills, whilst supporting delivery of critical trials that underpin the UK's nuclear deterrent.

Who are we looking for?

We do need you to have the following:

  • Hold Chartership status or be actively working towards it.
  • Extensive mechanical engineering and systems engineering experience.
  • The ability to evaluate products for performance, reliability, and safety.
  • Ability to review technical reports, drawings, and documentation. must
  • A keen eye for detail.
  • Proven ability to apply a logical mindset to problem solving.
  • Proven Leadership skills.
  • Ability to coach and develop design engineers through their projects.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team and with multi-disciplined stakeholders.

Important things you need to know:

  • You will need to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role. This will be funded by AWE. The nature of our work does mean you need to be a British Citizen who has been resident in the UK for the past 5 years in order to apply for SC clearance and 10 years for DV.

Due to the classified nature of the work involved, there are limited opportunities to work from home in this role. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will spend the majority of their time working on site at AWE Aldermaston.
