About the Role

Base Location: Glasgow, Perth, Inverness or Aberdeen

SSEN Transmission have a number of opportunities for both electrical and mechanical building services engineers to provide specialist engineering support on high profile and technically complex HVDC Converter Station Projects.

The key duties & responsibilities will be:

Electrical Building Services

Working with our Civil Building Designer, HVDC OEM and Tier 1 Contractors to develop, review and approve electrical building services designs and installations for our converter stations, which could include the following;

- Small Power and Lighting.

- Cable Containment Design.

- Fire Alarm Systems.

- Emergency Power Systems.

- Security Systems including CCTV.

- Telecoms.

- Integration of Building Management Systems into HVDC OEM Control System.

Mechanical Building Services

Working with our Civil Building Designer, HVDC OEM and Tier 1 Contractors to develop, review and approve mechanical building services designs and installations for our converter stations, which could include the following;

- Valve Cooling Systems (Pump, MCC, Cooling Fans, Heat Exchangers).

- HVAC Climate Systems (air handling units, dehumidifiers, ventilation ductwork, dampers, etc).

- General Plumbing and Pipework.

- Fire Protection Systems including deluge.

- Building Energy Performance calculations.

General Responsibilities:

- You will help define the basis of project design and scope. You will be involved in the full project life cycle, from project definition, preparing and evaluating tenders, conceptual and front end design development, detail design reviews HAZID/HAZCON/HAZOP sessions through into supporting construction, installation supervision and commissioning.

- To promote best practice within the building services design, bringing your experience to provide suggested improvements in specifications, innovation of technology options and management of engineering risks.

- Work within a multi-discipline team, utilising Autodesk Construction Cloud BIM environment to manage and co-ordinate designs, raise and respond to contractor RFI/TQs, clash detection, 3D model development etc.

- Support projects during installation and commissioning phases as an NEC supervisor.

- Work with Technical Authorities to manage specification deviations and to capture lessons learned and future specification improvements.

What do I need?

The role would suit an experienced Building Services Engineer who has worked in a consulting environment or contractor looking to take the next step into a client-side organisation.

Although power transmission experience is preferred it is not needed. Candidates with building service experience within data centres, industrial process systems (O&G, Chemical etc), and water industries are encouraged to apply.

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

Ideally holding a Degree or MSc in Building Services Engineering, be a Chartered Engineer or working towards this or can demonstrate relevant experience.

The ability to:

- Technically assess and critically challenge contractor submissions.

- Have excellent communication skills, with the ability to demonstrate diligence and to prioritise workload.

- Be familiar with a range of technical solutions used in Building Services Installations.

- Be confident in representing Project Engineering at Contractor Reviews and presenting RIBA stage 3+ design submissions at Internal LCP Gate 3 Design Authority Review presentations.
