Renewables Summer Placement Programme
Start Date: June 2025
Base Locations: Glasgow, Dublin
Salary: £23,422 / €28,940 (ROI) pro rata + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.
Degree Disciplines: Electrical Engineering, Control and Instrumentation, Mechanical Engineering (including aero-mechanical), Civil Engineering, Geosciences, Naval Architecture, Renewable Energy Engineering
Working Pattern: 12 weeks | Full Time | Flexible First options available
What is the Role?
At SSE Renewables, our mission is to deliver the green energy the world needs now and in the future. We are looking for engineering students in the 3rd or 4th year of their studies with a real interest in renewable energy, innovation and sustainability to join us for a 12-week summer placement. As a summer intern joining SSE Renewables, you will have the opportunity to work in a team focused on one of our technologies including solar and battery, hydro, onshore and offshore wind. Working in a team of technical experts in your core discipline, you will gain exposure to the day-to-day work of the engineers who plan, deliver and manage our renewable assets.
Each summer intern will have a unique experience and will deliver meaningful work to their team, putting into practice the knowledge gained during your studies. You will be assigned projects relevant to your degree discipline to work on throughout your placement and have the support of a engineering manager and graduate buddy to enable you to make the most of your 12 weeks. Previous summer interns have delivered valuable research papers, presented findings to senior leaders, implemented new tools and processes, and worked with our supply chain on project delivery. You will have the opportunity for site visits which could include the visiting the recently modernised Tummel Hydro Plant, journeying out to offshore turbines at Seagreen or view the construction of worlds largest offshore windfarm at Dogger Bank.
Placements start in June 2025 for a duration of 12 weeks.

Ideally you will currently be in your 3rd or 4th year studying for either a Bachelors or Masters degree in one of the following disciplines: Electrical Engineering, Control and Instrumentation, Mechanical Engineering (including aero-mechanical), Civil Engineering, Geosciences, Naval Architecture, Renewable Energy Engineering
As the organisations grows and becomes more international, our placement students and graduates need to be highly flexible in order to embrace the changes and keep up with the fast-paced evolution of the business. You should be agile in your thinking and seek to address knowledge gaps. It's important that you are comfortable working to and setting stretching individual targets and using your own initiative to overcome challenges.
